Rural Futures

Rural Futures PDF Author: Gerardo Semprebon
Publisher: LetteraVentidue Edizioni
ISBN: 886242714X
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 104
Book Description
The international debate on the modification of Chinese ruralities opens new theoretical and practical dimensions for architectural design. China’s rural lands, collectively owned by the peasantry, are under pressure. A dramatic socio-economic transition, an imponent political agenda, a land-use speculation process, an awakening of cultural values, and several other forces are reframing the conceptual and operative framework of the countryside’s transformation. Drawing on a fieldwork experience conducted in the Fujian Province, the book explores the Chinese countryside’s transient condition and its future implications.

The Interstitial Spaces of Urban Sprawl

The Interstitial Spaces of Urban Sprawl PDF Author: Cristian A. Silva
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 100051806X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 220
Book Description
This book proposes the idea of interstitial space as a theoretical framework to describe and understand the implications of in-between lands in urban studies and their profound transformative effects in cities and their urban character. The analysis of the interstitial spaces is structured into four themes: the conceptual grounds of interstitial spaces; the nature of interstices; the geographical scale of interstices; and the relationality of interstices. The empirical section of the book introduces seven cases that illustrate the varied nature of interstitiality to finally discuss its implications in the broader field of urban studies. Reflections upon further lines of enquiry and theories of urbanisation, urban sprawl, and cities are highlighted in the conclusion chapter. This is the ideal text for scholars of urban planning, strategic spatial planning, landscape planning, urban design, architecture, and other cognate disciplines as well as advanced students in these fields.

This book tells the story of the making of a community, which occurred hand-in-hand with the building of an archipelago of suburban residences, which reaffirm the value of the countryside within a technological and digital society. From 2010 onwards, Lina Malfona together with Petrini Architects and thanks to the support of the structural engineer Tommaso Malfona has been designing and building this archipelago of villas in the countryside north of Rome, which is also where their home-studio is located. This experimental residence has become a point of reference for the design of an innovative housing typology, an ‘ultra-residential’ villa as a place to experience private as well as public life. With Contributions of Pippo Ciorra (introduction); Kenneth Frampton, Stanley Allen (blurbs)

Higher Education and Innovation

Higher Education and Innovation PDF Author: Vincenzo Sapienza
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039437127
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 268
Book Description
This book highlights the design of an educational module for an innovative intensive program. The theme is very relevant in the contemporary approach to teaching activities. In fact, thanks to the didactic design, it is possible to obtain a strong relationship between teachers and learners, as required by the Bologna Process. It also allows a stronger definition of learning outcomes. After a general excursus on the subject, the manuscript refers to a recent experience carried out in the Aeolian Island for the Erasmus + Programme, called VVITA. In it, an international group of students and teachers spent a period in the Aeolian Islands, to focus on the features of local vernacular architecture. The attention has been addressed to the Aeolian House, which is a wonderful example of ante litteram sustainable architecture. On the island of Filicudi, one of the most beautiful of the archipelago, it has preserved its characteristics intact. The book is completed by teachers’ lectures and students’ final reports.
